Even through elimination hasn’t started in the Olympic tournament yet, Teams USA and Russia have claimed places in the quarter finals and, depending on how the game plays out later tonight, both Sweden and Finland can clinch the last two spots even though one of the teams must lose tonight.
Red Wings Russian stats: Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist in Russia’s 4-2 win over the Czech Republic.
The real story tonight was the USA-Canada game. Even through the 2006 metal rematch is up next, nothing can touch this game and its excitement. The game was insane, its climax coming with the USA out to a two goal lead and Sydney Crosby tying the game with only a minute left. There also was a pair of Team USA breakaways, both set up by Brian Rafalski, separated only be a Team Canada breakaway; all of that happened in a time span of about 25 seconds. Ryan Miller stood on his head and delivered this game to Team USA.
Red Wings USA stats: Brian Rafalski is on fire, scoring Team USA’s last two goals coming into tonight and netting the first two tonight. He also set up USA’s third goal, although he didn’t get an assist, and took the shot that resulted in the deflection that was the game winner. In these last two games, Rafalski has matched his goal total for the entire season in the NHL.
