After going out to a three goal lead after the first period, the Detroit Red Wings lost to the LA Kings 4-3 in regulation.
Henrik Zetterberg was the first to net a puck tonight, followed just 16 seconds later by Valtteri Filppula. With only five seconds left in the first, Zetterberg scored his second of the day. From that point on it was LA on a comeback. Alexander Frolov scored first after a giveaway, followed by Michal Handzus and Ryan Smyth. In the third, Handzus scored the game winner with just a couple minutes left in the game.
Detroit shut down in the second period and never recovered. Adding to the problems Detroit had was the loss of Tomas Holmstrom after the first period and then the losses of Drew Miller and Patrick Eaves in the second. Being a whole forward line down, the Wings just tired out and died off during the end of the game. The Ville Leino trade, which In Play! predicted two weeks ago, should have gotten the team moving in the right direction but instead the team just fell apart.
In Play! Man of the Game: Henrik Zetterberg. Zetterberg scored two goals and was only on the ice for one goal against, which was caused by a misplayed puck on behalf of Jimmy Howard. Zetterberg had several chances at the hat-trick but Jonathan Quick and the post prevented that.
