DETROIT LIONS SIGN RB RUDI JOHNSON; RELEASE RB TATUM BELL

Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed free agent RB Rudi Johnson to a one-year deal and released RB Tatum Bell. No other contract terms were disclosed.Johnson (5-10, 225) joins the Lions offensive backfield after playing seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was quite productive as the Bengals featured back for several years with a blend of speed and power. During his career, he has recorded 5,742 rushing yards on 1,441 attempts (4.0 avg.). He has 48 career rushing touchdowns, including 12 in 2004, 2005 and 2006. As a receiver out of the backfield, he has amassed 101 catches for 588 yards (5.8) and one touchdown. Johnson leaves Cincinnati third on the Bengals’ all-time rushing yards list (5,742) and second on the rushing attempts list (1,441). He also has recorded 19 career 100-yard rushing games.
