Tonight was all about Pekka Rinne and Jimmy Howard in what was a duel that continued deep into a shootout.
The first goal scored tonight was by Todd Bertuzzi and that came five rounds into the shootout. Steve Sullivan tied up the shootout and no one hit the net again until Niklas Kronwall netted the game winner in the 11th round.
This game didn’t lack great offensive scoring chances and actually was full of them. The play from Howard and Rinne tonight was huge with both goalies doubling their personal highlight reels. Detroit outplayed Nashville despite the fact that the Wings played last night but couldn’t solve Rinne.
In Play Man of the Game: Jimmy Howard. Howard beat out Rinne for the honors tonight due to the outcome of the shootout. Tonight was Howard’s second career shutout on 33 shots faced (That doesn't count the 11 rounds of the shootout).
