The Detroit Red Wings' Kirk Maltby will undergo surgery on his shoulder today in what many have said will be the end to his season and possible, because of his age and lack of contract for next season, career.
However, Maltby doesn’t see eye to eye with these people.
The first thing that Maltby wanted to get straight is that he doesn’t plan on missing the rest of the season. “I’m hoping I can be back at least for the last week of the season and for the playoffs,” Maltby tells In Play! magazine.
When asked about the future of his career, Maltby says, “I defiantly don’t want my career to end like this. I understand the business…but I think I can still contribute to this team winning. My plan is to be back on the ice next season, even if it’s not with Detroit.”
While Maltby does plan on being around at least one more year, he also tells In Play that he’ll be done by the next time the Winter Olympics come around in 2014.
