... Notre Dame Forward Becomes Wings’ Fourth First Round Selection in Last 10 Years …

Detroit, MI... The Detroit Red Wings selected Riley Sheahan with the 21st overall pick in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft on Friday night. Red Wings Assistant General Manager Jim Nill announced the selection at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. This weekend’s draft marks the first time the event has been held in the state of California.

“Riley is a big, strong centerman and was the only true freshman in college hockey last season,” said Nill. “We project him to be a power forward in the NHL. He was a prolific scorer at St. Catherines of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.”

This marks the first forward the Wings have selected in a first round of an NHL Draft since taking Curtis Bowen in 1992 and Martin Lapointe in 1991.
