Detroit, MI... Detroit Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Tomas Holmstrom on a two-year contract. In accordance with team policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Holmstrom, 37, was originally a 10th round selection of the Red Wings (257th overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. The Pitea, Sweden, native has played 13 seasons in Detroit. In 879 career games he has recorded 214 goals and 255 assists for 469 points. The gritty forward has also accumulated 667 career penalty minutes. Nearly half of Holmstrom’s 214 career goals have come via the power-play (102).
In 2009-10, Holmstrom finished with 25 goals and 20 assists for 45 points in 68 games. It was the third time in his career he has reached the 25-goal plateau. He notched his 100th career power-play goal on March 26 vs. the Minnesota Wild. In 12 games during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs he finished with 7 points (4-3-7) and 12 PIM.
