RED WINGS RECALL GUSTAV NYQUIST FROM GRAND RAPIDS

Team Places Forward Todd Bertuzzi on Injured Reserve

Detroit, MI... The Detroit Red Wings today announced that forward Gustav Nyquist has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.  In order to make room for Nyquist on the current 23-man roster, forward Todd Bertuzzi has been placed on injured reserve.  Bertuzzi has missed Detroit’s last three games due to a back injury.

Nyquist, 23, was selected by Detroit in the fourth round (141st overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.  He currently leads the Griffins and is tied for fourth in AHL scoring with 45 points (17-28-45) in 47 games played.  Today’s recall marks Nyquist’s second stint with the Red Wings this season.  He was in uniform for Detroit’s home opener on Jan. 22 vs. the Dallas Stars and recorded two shots on goal in 11:42 of ice time before being reassigned to Grand Rapids.  In 19 career NHL games with the Red Wings, the Halmstad, Sweden, native has collected seven points (1-6-7).

Nyquist set the Griffins’ rookie scoring record last season after registering 58 points (22-36-58) in 56 games.  Prior to joining the Griffins at the end of the 2010-11 season, Nyquist played three seasons at the University of Main (NCAA, Hockey East), amassing 144 points (50-94-113) in 113 collegiate appearances.
