Saturday the Detroit Red Wings will attempt to follow up a 4-0 win over Anaheim in their season opener in Detroit by spoiling the home opener of the Blackhawks.
Chicago started their Stanley Cup defending season on the road and on the wrong foot. They lost 4-3 in overtime to the Colorado Avalanche, but are hoping for a win in their home opener against the Wings. The game is also special because the Hawks’ will be raising a Stanley Cup banner during pre-game.
Detroit seemed like little was going wrong for them in their home opener Friday night. Although already down two skaters and loosing Jonathan Ericsson during the game, the injuries that seemed to plague the team last year don’t look to be going away. But Mike Modano netted his first as a Wing, Johan Franzen opened scoring for the season, Dan Cleary used his surgery corrected knees to stuff a puck into the net and Datsyuk finished the game with a Gordy Howe Hat Trick.
