The Detroit Red Wings stayed perfect on the season by taking Chicago’s home opener and Stanley Cup Banner night in a 3-2 win in regulation.
Valtteri Filppula was first to crack the score sheet tonight with a goal a little more than halfway through the first. Brent Seabrook tied the game at the end of the first. Todd Bertuzzi scored quickly in the second before Bryan Bickell tied it again. Filppula netted the only goal of the third.
Tonight was a test skill wise for the Red Wings, who faced their number one rival the Blackhawks, a team that despite looking a little different is poised to make a run to repeat. They were bringing a hard effort tonight since they raised their banner and it’s the first non exhibition game in front of their own fans since winning the cup on the road.
In Play! Man of the Game: Valtteri Filppula. Filppula netter the first and game winning goals, plus was on the ice when Bertuzzi scored. Filppula has two goals and an assist in two games this season.
