For the second time this season, the Blackhawks will have a pre-game ceremony before playing the Red Wings. Tonight, they honor the career of Chris Chelios.

In honor of the night, the Red Wings gave Chelios a signed Blackhawks jersey with his picture taped to it with remarks from the team. Jiri Hudler, pictured above, noted, “It was an honor to play with someone older than my dad.”

On the other side of the puck drop, Mike Babcock has switched his starting goalie for tonight to Jimmy Howard in favor of giving Chris Osgood his first crack at 400 wins at home Sunday versus Dallas. The wings will look at repeating the performance they gave Wednesday at home, a game that saw Nicklas Lidstrom net his first career hat-trick, making him the oldest player to record his first hat-trick and the oldest defenseman in Red Wings history to net three in a game (taking that distinction from former defensive line mate Matheiu Schneider).
Red Wings are 1-0-0 against the Blackhawks this season. The teams, which have met more than any other teams in NHL history, have yet to play in Detroit this season.
