Chicago Blackhawk fans were rewarded for booing Chris Chelios tonight as their team carried on to a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in Chicago.
Patrick Sharp opened scoring at 1:04 of the first, added to by Bryan Bickell before the five minute mark of the period. Patrick Eaves cut the lead to just one 30 seconds later. Tomas Kopecky netted the last two goals of the game.
Wing’s coach Mike Babcock said after the game that he was “shocked” at how slow the Wings started and that he was particularly disappointed in the second line which will not be the same on Sunday. The Wings played as sour as the taste Hawks fans should have in their mouths after they booed Chris Chelios, the best Chicago born player in history. The most pressing issue facing the Wings is that the teams plus/minus leader is Justin Abdelkater, who moved to a +11 tonight and is the ONLY player on the Wings in the double digits.
In Play! Man of the Game: Chris Chelios. Chelios handled himself like the veteran of 84-I mean 26-NHL seasons he is when his hometown booed him on the night the team honored him.
