Before the start of the Red Wings/Blackhawks game on December 17, the Blackhawks honored newly retired defenseman and Chicago Native Chris Chelios on his hall of fame likely career. Only catch, he got booed by the crowd.

In a pre-ceremony video, only a clip of Chelios taking liberties with Red Wings Steve Yzerman and exchanging blows with Bob Probert got cheers in a video highlighting Chelios’ decade with the Blackhawks.

During his speech, every pause Chelios made was filled with slurs of, “Trader, Detroiter,” and, “Go back to Detroit where you belong.” Chelios finished his remarks with, “Hey. Can’t we just let bygones be bygones?” It was the only thing he said that drew cheers.
