Despite loosing their last two games, the Detroit Red Wings have officially clinched a playoff spot for the 2009-2010 season. This marks 19 consecutive seasons that the Wings have made the post season in a span of 20 years (the numbers are different because there was a lockout season in 2004-2005) to extend their streak which is currently the longest postseason appearance streak in all of North American professional sports. They are also the only team from Detroit for 2009-2010 to make the post season.

The Red Wings still have three games remaining in the season to determine exactly who they will face in the first round of the playoffs. The first of those games is tomorrow against Columbus. This is the first game in a home and home series that will see the two teams playing in Columbus on Friday. This is also the final home game of Detroit’s regular season.
