RED WINGS RECALL GUSTAV NYQUIST FROM GRAND RAPIDS


... AHL’s Leading Scorer to Join Team for Upcoming Trip to Western Canada …

Detroit, MI... The Detroit Red Wings today announced that forward Gustav Nyquist has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.  The club has also announced that forward Tomas Tatar has been reassigned to Grand Rapids.  The promotion marks Nyquist’s third stint with the Red Wings this season.  The Halmstad, Sweden, native has appeared in two games for Detroit in 2012-13,  collecting three shots on goal and a -1 rating in contests against the Dallas Stars on Jan. 21 and the Anaheim Ducks on Feb. 15.

Nyquist, 23, was selected by Detroit in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.  He currently leads the AHL in scoring with 60 points (23-37-60) in 57 games played.  He paces the Griffins in numerous statistical categories this season including goals (23), assists (37), points (60), power-play goals (9) and shots on goal (166).  In 20 career NHL games with the Red Wings, Nyquist has registered seven points (1-6-7).

Nyquist set the Griffins’ rookie scoring record last season after registering 58 points (22-36-58) in 56 games.  Prior to joining the Griffins at the end of the 2010-11 season, Nyquist played three seasons at the University of Maine (NCAA, Hockey East), amassing 144 points (50-94-144) in 113 collegiate appearances.

Tatar has appeared in 18 games for the Red Wings this season, registering seven points (4-3-7) and a +2 rating.  In 44 games with Grand Rapids prior to his recall, Tatar collected 39 points (19-20-39), 44 penalty minutes and a +13 rating.
