USA WINS GOLD AT WORLD JUNIORS, CANADA'S MEDAL STREAK ENDS

By AJ Petronzi

Team USA defeated defending champions Sweden 3-1 in the World Junior Tournament in Ufa, Russia to win the Gold medal.

Scoring was opened up in the game by Sweden before Team USA'a Rocco Grimaldi netted two goals in the second period to give the USA everything they would need to take the gold. USA added an empty net goal in the dying moments of the third.

USA goalie John Gibson was awarded the best goalie award of the tournament.

The biggest headline of the tournament may be that Team Canada, which has historically dominated the U20 tournament, was held without a medal after it fell to Team USA and Team Russia in the medal rounds. It is the first time in 14 years that Canada leaves the World Juniors without a medal.
