Thanks to three goals within a three minute and 58 second
span of the first period the Los Angeles Kings have won the Stanley Cup at home
in LA.
Dustin Brown opened scoring with a power play goal 11
minutes into the game. Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis added goals for LA within
four minutes of Brown. Jeff Carter opened the second period with his second
goal of the night before Adam Henrique put New Jersey on the board to close the
second. Trevor Lewis added an empty net goal in the third, almost immediately followed
by Matt Greene adding LA’s sixth of the game.
LA dominated this game. It was obvious from the beginning
that they simply wanted to win this game more than New Jersey. Ilya Kovalchuk
remained a non-factor for New Jersey throughout the series. Dustin Brown was
the hero of the finals, finishing game six with a game high three points. And
while the questions will be asked endlessly for the next few weeks, it is possible
that the 6-1 rout of the Devils may well have been the last game of the career
of Martin Brodeur, one of the greatest goaltenders to ever play the game.
In Play! Man of the game: Dustin Brown. Brown put on a
playoff performance that was deserving of the Conn Smythe Trophy. Although the
honor went to Jonathan Quick, Brown arguably was robbed of the trophy.
